Volunteers & Farmers join “Helping Hands” to fight hunger

Volunteers from all over the Seattle area will be heading out to Full Circle Farm in Carnation again this summer and fall to exchange their labor for donations of fresh produce to Hopelink.

Helping Hands is collaborating this year with Full Circle Farm’s new Experience Farming Project, which gives participants an experience of what life is like on an organic farm, while making a contribution to a more sustainable agricultural food system. Full Circle makes donations after work party events of freshly picked crops to the Hopelink food banks in north and east King County in the participants’ names. “Helping Hands” is part of the Cascade Harvest Coalition which works to create a healthy food and farm system in Washington State.

Volunteers will be helping with stream restoration work on the farm under the Salmon-Safe Certification program of Stewardship Partners. Salmon-Safe Certification recognizes farm operations that adopt conservation practices that help restore native salmon habitat in Pacific Northwest rivers and streams.

Other work party events this summer and fall will combine farm labor with hands-on education on local sustainable farming practices, and work harvesting the crops to be donated by Full Circle Farm to Hopelink food banks.
